wordpress.com to wordpress.org quick question

  • I mistakenly signed up for wordpress.com instead of wordpress.org. What I’ve done now is got hosting and used their script to install the latest version of wordpress.org. That seemed to go ok.

So now I’m logging in https://mydomain.wordpress.com/wp-admin but it’s taking me to the wordpress.com admin panel. How do I log into wordpress.org (ftp?) I’d like to completely disassociate from wordpress.com (I haven’t even made a post in either so there is no content I have to migrate)

I’ve pointed the domain I bought to wordpress.com is this the reason ?

  • Sounds like you are doing the right thing. As far as I know, WordPress.org doesn’t offer blog hosting. It just offers the WordPress download, plugins, themes, & community forum. If you signed up to have wordpress.com to host your blog then you should be logging into wordpress.com or your new domain (http://www.mynewdomain.com/wp-admin) to write your content. The only blog at wordpress.org I know of is just general WordPress news: http://wordpress.org/news/.

yep, I did sign up for wordpress.com but then I bought hosting and uploaded the wordpress.org files to it. Does that automatically switch me to wordpress.org? Because when I sign in http://www.mynewdomain.com/wp-admin I’m getting server not found now… Do I need to point the domain name I purchased anywhere?

You should contact WordPress.com for support in getting started:
