WordPress/3.5.1 User Agent? | WordPress.org

A site my blog links to is reporting they are receiving errors from my site via the user agent “WordPress/3.5.1.” Would something in the new version of WP be causing this? Reasons I found in other forums were from years ago, stating it could be a plugin (I haven’t added anything new recently) or potential malicious activity. Any ideas?

It sounds like the remote website is receiving a trackback/pingback from your WordPress site, but doesn’t know what to make of it.

Is the remote site a WordPress site (or another CMS that can handle pingbacks/trackbacks)? Can you provide us with the specific error message that is being generated?

It is an ecommerce site that is not using WordPress. I don’t believe it can handle pingbacks, at least not the way like WP does.

The error is:

Error executing child request for handler ‘System.Web.Mvc.HttpHandlerUtil+ServerExecuteHttpHandlerWrapper’.

And just to be sure I understand– this error message is on the remote site (i.e. not your WordPress site, but the e-commerce one), correct?

You are correct, the errors are occurring on the e-commerce site.

It seems as though more instances of user agents named “WordPress/3.5.1; http://www.insertsitenamehere.com” have been popping up:
