 * I was trying to update wordpress from 3.0 to 3.0.1 but the installation won’t
   work automatically. I hit “update automatically” and the page says “Downloading
   update from [http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.0.1.zip…&#8221](http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.0.1.zip…&#8221);
   but then it stops. I am able to manually update it but it’s a hassle.

 * Hello,
 * Make sure that your wp-content/upgrade folder has chmod 777 privileges else it
   is unable to download WordPress to your server.

 * I have the same problem –
    My wp-content/upgrade folder has permissions set to
   777 though, so that’s not the problem.
 * I wonder what else I can do about it?

 * Does an error show when it fails? I have had issues with lack of memory a few
   times but if there are any messages which appear it would be helpful if you could
   post them 🙂
 * I am pretty sure that automatic update won’t work if you’re running PHP4 (most
   commonly ran if you host with one and one).

 * Yeah mine still won’t work. There’s no error message. The page simply stops loading
   and it stays on that screen. My host’s php version is 5.2.

 * I have been trying for weeks to install the new 3.0.1, and each time, the message
   appears that it has failed and I need to try again. I don’t understand about
   permissions, but I wonder if this is something to do with it, and how do I change
   the situation? Thanks

 * I’m having the same issue as JaGill. Has anyone figured out how to resolve? Thanks.

 * Try adding `AddType x-mapp-php5 .php` to the top of your WordPress .htaccess
   file.
