 * There is a banner in my dashboard that says that I should update to 4.6. However,
   whenever I click on “update now” it just takes me to the updates section. In
   that section, it says I can either automatically update or manually update, but
   only provides a link to download the new file. There is no function there that
   allows me to update automatically.

 * If for some reason auto update does work on your server, have you considered
   updating WP manually?
 * Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it,
   and use that to copy up all files and folders **EXCEPT the wp-config.php file
   and the /wp-content/ directory.** You may need to delete the old wp-admin and
   wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Please
   read the [Manual Update](http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update)
   directions first.
    – **Backup: If you haven’t already done, always backup everything(
   including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really
   goes wrong. You can never have enough backups! ** Useful Guides: [http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups](http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups);

 * Thanks,
    So I don’t replace any of the other files like all the php files underneath
   the folders?

 * Never mind. Loose files was what I was talking about. I didn’t know that was
   the term but I figured it out now.
