 * I would like to develop my new WordPress website in a hidden URL, e.g. [http://www.example.com/dev/](http://www.example.com/dev/)
 * So that means anyone typing [http://www.example.com](http://www.example.com) 
   would not see the website. Is that possible?

 * You’ve already answered your own question – install WP in a sub-folder. Then,
