WordPress site is white screened – can’t see site, can’t see admin.

Upgraded to latest version then attempted to include line in Appearance function to delete seeing DATE and TIME under posts.

HELP I don’t have a lot of time, and extremely basic understanding of WordPress when not in plain English.
Re Filezilla/SmartFTP Client neither downloading fully …malware has stopped it repeatedly despite creating exceptions. What to do?? Spent all day on this problem
I understand I am supposed to rename function -php to function – old and wordpress will upload new functionn – php…but cannot use FTP software properly as haven’t used FTP for decades (used to be friendlier)

Mine is a WordPress free account

    See: http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients

Ask your hosting company for help if you can’t get that to work – it’s not part of WP.

Alternatively, you can use Cpanel to access your site files on the server. And yes, you’ll need to first download a new copy of your theme and then replace the file that you messed up via Cpanel or FTP.

    What is the site URL?

thanks – http://www.ihansw.org.au – do you want login and password details?

Is your site on your local computer?

Mine is a WordPress free account

Do you mean hosted on WordPress.COM?? Probably not, as there is no file level access at all – it’s not possible for you to modify any theme files at all or access via FTP or CPanel.

do you want login and password details?

No, please do not ever give that info out to anyone on a public forum. We do not offer that level of support either, sorry.

who is my hosting company though? Is this Optus – who provides our wireless???

Okay, it’s Telestra – you’ll need to ask them for help to get FTP access set up. BTW, if it’s free hosting, that’s likely to be a problem – WP does not run well on free hosting, sometimes not at all. So you may want to reconsider your hosting situation:

or the host server I think it is “hempuse” something or rather….if I can contact the person who hosts us..what is my question exactly?

To find out what the actual error is, you’ll need to edit your wp-config.php file and set this:

    define('WP_DEBUG', true);

That will at least show you where the error is and you’ll be able to work from there. As WPyogi said, ifyou’re using free hosting the chances are that the hosting server isn’t “right” for trying to run something like WordPress.

thanks, I am waiting for the host moderator to contact me. I am sure the issue will get resolved..but the question is how much time will it take? Next week?
