also I have another old account with wordpress under a different email address that I was trying to make a new website with but the site was not published with thetravelwholer.com

it still comes up with this error message

    Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/upgrade.php on this server.

Hmmm. OK, It looks like a permissions issue.

Did you install WordPress yourself by uploading WordPress files, or did you use the host’s automatic WordPress install feature from the control panel, or did your host provider do it all for you?

I can’t remember now… but I’ve always been able to get into my dashboard until now.

Do you know how to get into the Cpanel from within your web hosting control panel in your account? If so, go into that if you can and go into the File Manager. Once there, in the left column, click on the public_html folder which will open up the files (contents) in the right side window. For example, here is what my window looks like on my web host:

    https://app.screencast.com/PSAnwBLjcKoYX

On the left, I clicked on the public_html folder in the left column. It shows everything in it. My files and folders here are different from what yours will be because I’m using Joomla on my website, not WordPress. But, for you, look for the wp-admin folder and to the far right, see if the permission set is 0755. IF so, click on the wp-admin folder and then look for a file upgrade.php and look to the right if it shows permission set to 0644.

Getting to the file manager from Cpanel will be in a spot that looks like this:

that’s the part web.com won’t let me into without paying them $60 for tech support… they may be

doing this on purpose… it just seems awfully weird.

    Andre

    (@andre-jutras)

If I understand correctly, they won’t let you access your site files from your hosting control panel?

Submit a support request and paste the error you now get:

    Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/upgrade.php on this server.

If they don’t provide access to a person’s website files, then this needs to be included in their support (no additional charge).

***I’m having a chat with their support right now. Not to worry, I’m not saying your name or website 🙂

this is link they gave me earlier but when I click on it it take me sign in to web.com and then home page for my account… I try it again and does the same… there is no place on my account that lets me go to the files… then the support chat I’m talking to with them says I’ll have to go to their support team and pay a min. of $60 to fix the problem. They won’t even go into the files for me on their end.

they’ve escalated it to higher up so I’ll just let you know soon as I hear from them? Thank you for your help….appreciate it.

    Andre

    (@andre-jutras)

You’re very welcome. I guess you will have to wait for them to respond from their “higher up” status.

It sounds like they do charge customers additional fees to provide support–even if it’s an issue on their end. That is a first for me in the 15+ years of dealing with hosts.

Anyway, hopefully they will not want to bill you for this.

    (@trishscheller)

Andre, they still haven’t emailed me but the site is back up and now I can get in to my control panel. I don’t know what to do in the control panel though

    Andre

    (@andre-jutras)

You got back into your website’s admin dashboard area?

    Thread Starter trishscheller

    (@trishscheller)

yes back in and on chat with them now

    Andre

    (@andre-jutras)

Ok, let me know what they say then. I want to recommend you install a backup plugin and backup your website (and database) then download your backup files to your computer.

    (@trishscheller)

when I type in to go to website now the WP heading comes up on top like I’m logged in but it’s still a 405 Forbidden error and I can’t get in like I used to could.
