Hi Everyone. I need some help here. I have a WordPress website of a Client which keeps on crashing. The site is membership site, without using S2 Member plugin. The average site visitors per month are 1,00,000 to 2,00,000. The total site members who registered in 3 months are 2,65,000. The site is pretty basic with no special template or plugins. It only has 6 plugins and a custom built theme. The site has WP Super Cache installed as well.

I would really appreciate if you can help me answer the following questions:
    1) Why is the site crashing ?
    2) How do I stop the site from crashing ?
    3) How do I manage the database with such large number of users ?
    4) If I want to use a good membership plugin called S2 Member Pro edition, then how can I migrate the website users to that ?
    5) Can there be a better solution than using WP Super Cache plugin ?

Thank you so much for reading this post. I look forward to your replies and comments.

    Regards
    Vatsal P.

  • Hey Vatsal

Sorry to hear that your website isn’t functioning to well right now! It sounds to me like a web hosting issue. Usually when WordPress sites crash (502 bad gateway errors etc) it is because something is taking up too many server resources. A plugin is usually to blame.

I would honestly try disabling WP Super Cache and seeing if this makes any difference for you. Depending on your host, you may even have the option of server side caching to avoid needing a plugin.

My best advice though is for you to check your “Error Logs” from your host to see any potential plugins that could be causing this. Hope this information is helpful.

Hi Mike. Thanks for the helpful reply. May I know what am I suppose to check on the Error Logs ??? How do I know what is causing the problem ?

    Hi

Look for any plugins being mentioned in the error log alongside anything like Long query, slow curl, timeout, etc. Depends on your host really but if you are seeing a particular plugin being repeatedly mentioned in error logs, I would make an attempt at deactivating it to see if your condition improves.

If you need help understanding error logs, I would definitely contact your host as well.
