# WordPress version not updating

 * I have a domain that I installed WordPress onto some time ago, but never did 
   anything with, and I have now gone back to it to start blogging.
 * When I tried to install Jetpack, I was told it isn’t compatible with my version
   of WordPress, and when I checked I found my blog is still running version 4.2.4.
   When I go to the update screen, it says “Last checked on May 25, 2016 at 8:16
   am” and nothing changes when I click the button to check again.
 * I’ve found the instructions to update manually, and I’m fine with doing that,
   but I’m more concerned about why my blog isn’t detecting the availability of 
   new updates.
 * Can anyone explain this? Is there a setting I need to change somewhere? (I don’t
   recall changing any settings when I originally installed WordPress, but it’s 
   possible I may have done.)

 * It is likely that some files were compromised causing the update functionality
   to break. Do you have any plugins installed? If so, are you able to update those
   without problems?

 * Go ahead and update manually. This might get everything synced up. Right now 
   the update is the most important thing.

 * I agree with [@kmessinger](https://wordpress.org/support/users/kmessinger/) definitely
   most important to run the updates, I was only asking those questions because 
   I have seen this problem be caused by plugins in the past.
