# WordPress Upgrade

 * Dear all,
 * I’m using version 3.8.5 of wordpress and I would like to upgrade it to the latest
   version (4.1)
 * 2 questions:
 * 1. Can I upgrade to version 4.1 directly or is it less risky to upgrade to version
   3.9 or 4.0 first?
 * 2. I’m using the Twenty Twelve theme. Moreover, the design of the website has
   been done by professionals. Can there be incompatibilities?

 * 1. You can upgrade directly to WP 4.1. However it is always a good idea to take
   a full backup of the site first.
 * 2. If the modification were done in a child theme then you can upgrade your website
   as well as the Twenty Twelve theme itself without any problem. However if the
   code of Twenty Twelve was modified directly then you should only update WordPress
   and not Twenty Twelve.
