What happens when you try to login?
My problem is that this update went out on a Friday. I want someone to look into that not happening again. Can you fix that?
The login issue is being answered on another thread and it is a separate issue from update rollout days being close to or on a weekend.
“We” cannot fix it, no. I’ll move this thread to “Requests and Feedback” where it will be seen by the developers who make these decisions.
Is there some way that we could take the users into consideration and not roll stuff out on Fridays or Saturdays or Sunday?
Just as one note here: Trust me, NO ONE wanted this on a Friday. However given the nature of the fixes, there were few choices.
Do you have to upgrade right away? No, of course not. You could have waited until Monday if you wanted.
You see, my webhost has some top-level admin stuff they do for security (LiquidWeb) and the latest version of WordPress has made it so that I can’t log in and neither can my customers.
I use LiquidWeb. I upgraded right away. No one has a problem on my sites, or my servers. If you can’t log in, it’s not Core WP or LiquidWeb, it’s something else on your site :/ Sucks, but you can even test this out by installing a test new WP instance and see if that works.
(Speaking as one who works for a webhosting company, we hated this Friday one, too, but sometimes you don’t get a lot of choices. We had to pick between a security risk that had been made public or releasing, knowing a lot of people still won’t upgrade till Monday. I don’t like it, but given how small this upgrade was, it’s really safe 🙂 )
Thanks, @ipstenu. I do know that I didn’t have to upgrade right away and I had no reason to believe a minor upgrade would be an issue.
As far as the problem being with LiquidWeb or Core WP, if you had read my post, you would recognize that you are wrong. LiquidWeb told me that on one of my installs had an issue where the modsec rules were a problem and that permissions needed to be fixed. The modsec rules were setup by LiquidWeb.
They have yet to figure out what’s going on with their setup for the 2nd install, but it’s dovetailed into my first install via IP address. I think that’s where the problem lies, but I dunno.
I really like LiquidWeb a lot and trust them. They are much better than some other hosts I have had. But they have acknowledged that their own security setup to avoid sites getting hacked is responsible and they are fixing it.
I’m glad that you have had no problems.
