I am having an issue with the site I manage – furryfriendsrockinrescue.org – which is run with WordPress. Over the last year, WordPress has had updates and slowly the site, along with the programming, has had glitches and issues. The mobile version (mainly for IOS users) will not load portfolios of projects. This is the most important part of the website, so it needs to be fixed ASAP. (This is using the theme Pet Rescue)

Another issue that has started… I’ve lost the ability to customize font in posts/projects. I can only customize heading font when specifically adding a header, but not when putting a header into a text box.

Another issue… When uploading pictures – If they upload sideways, or need to be cropped, any adjustments made will not stay. I have to crop and/or turn the photo, save it, delete it, then upload it again.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

These issues sound like problems from an out of date theme. Is there a more recent version?

You use a commercial theme/plugin and need support, so please use their official support channel. We feel they are best equipped to support their products.

Commercial products are not supported in these forums. .

There has been no updates to the theme since we started using it 2.5 years ago.

Could you tell me – Is it a bad idea to switch themes? Is there themes that are not commercial, but supplied by WordPress. We were gifted the site and theme when we first started, so we didn’t choose any of it from the start, but have now customized it. I wouldn’t be against switching it, but will this cause me to lose everything on my current site? (I have 100s of projects created already – will they be gone?)

There are bunches and bunches of free themes at https://wordpress.org/themes

Changing themes will not change your content, just how it’s displayed (unless your theme creates custom post types).

It sounds, though, like you may just need to adjust some CSS with custom CSS if your theme doesn’t let you modify things through the customizer.

Will I have to completely recreate all of my pages/menus again as well or just customize the layout and colors, etc. if I change themes? I think an updated, more modern theme would actually be an improvement.

You will have to reassign your menus and widgets, probably. Layout and colors depends on what theme you choose.

But the content (mainly the text) that was on the pages will remain for reference? I just need to be sure I won’t lose that content before I move forward.

Thank you for all your help!

Create a test site and try things out there.
