  • I am emailing for some advice about the impact of updates on our site.

We have been working with a graphics company who have built the code and set up the site so it mostly manages itself and we as an organisation put in data and change events and images etc when needed.

We have had a little bit of a bumpy ride with this company, and we are now trying to distance ourself from them and do more of the work in house.

I myself who does most the management of the site is quite tech savvy but I wanted to get a second opinion on an email they have sent through requesting additional fees for additional services that they will need to carry out due to word press updating systems etc… here are a few snippets if the information they sent.

“Over the past few weeks WordPress have released some new urgent security updates. Unfortunately this has become an increasingly time intensive exercise, as we have had to address some conflicts within your site to make sure you have no down time. The updates are necessary to make sure your site is as secure as possible from hacking and conflicts.”

Is it true that installing these updates that a large amount of additional work will need to be done and that it will alter our site or potentially take it off line?

Being reasonably tech savvy myself is there somewhere I can learn to manage these changes myself, and is it a relatively simple or more complex issue?

Any support or advice on the would be great, as they are try to charge more for additional service which we are unsure we want to pay, especially as initially they informed us that the site would sustain itself for at least the next three years..

    Again any help or thoughts?

Sorry its such a large email

    Thank you

    H
