 * I have been getting messages that WordPress was unable to update.
    “An automated
WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.”
and when I click on the please attempt now link, it still doesn’t update.
 * What’s strange is that I currently have version 5.7.2 which I believe is the
   current version.
 * So I installed and ran the plugin from WordPress called SiteHealth. I disabled
all my plugins (other than SiteHealth) and activates the Twenty Twenty One theme.
I still have the same update error message problem. I also get an error message
within SiteHealth “A plugin has prevented updates by disabling wp_version_check()”
 * How do I respond to these error messages? It’s confusing since I am updated to
   the latest version (I think).

 * I would start by using the reinstall wordpress feature that’s in the “Updates”
tab to try and reinstall the core files, maybe something is slightly corrupted.
 * If that doesn’t work, let us know.

 * So, the first problem was solved. There was a remnant “.maintenance” file on
the site that was causing the “An automated WordPress update has failed to complete-
please attempt the update again now” Once this was removed, the message stopped.
 * However, I still have a problem with an error message from the WordPress Site
Health plugin. “A plugin has prevented updates by disabling wp_version_check()”
 * What does this message mean and how can I troubleshoot it? I’d appreciate any
   help. Thanks.

 * Oops. I forgot to mention that I did update WordPress to reinstall the core files—
as you suggested. I’m still getting the strange message from Site Health.

 * The msg. means exactly what it says and to find which plugin is causing the msg/
problem you should disable all plugins then re-enable them one-at-time.
 * To save time, have two Browser Tabs open, one on Health page and one on Plugins
page. Enable one plugin then in the other Tab, reload the page using CTRL + F5.
If no change enable the next plugin and so on.

 * Good idea. However, I still get the problem when I disable all my plugins (except
   Site Health of course).
 * Also, if the health-check plugin is active, there is an error when a manual WordPress

update is done, but if the plugin is disabled, the update gets through without
   any issue.
 * Should I just ignore the error message? If I can update OK without the plugin?

 * If the Site Health plugin is disabled and you can update whatever you want, I
would remove it, marked this thread as Resolved and carry on.

 * Thanks for your feedback. I’m deactivating the Site Health plugin.
