I installed the update last week and now i am no longer able to access my main admin pages. I can access a limited version via an engineer login but my main admin log in returns a blank page and i therefor cannot make changes to the pages in the site.

Please help. The website is crucial to our business.

    Thanks

    Hi BCSKate,

Sorry you are experiencing the WordPress white screen of death. Basically a plugin has probably gone awry, and you need to figure out which one.

If you follow the instructions in the link above, it will will help you determine the trouble area.

Here are some other questions that might also help find an answer:

    Who is your host?
Do you have access to cpanel or FTP?
What version of WP were you running?
Can you remember how many, or which plugins you were running?
Can you get access to your error logs? They will tell you exactly where the problem is.

Hope this helps. If you can provide more information I may be able to guide you back!

    Hi Casey

Thanks for the advice. Im still struggling unfortunately.

    We use Fasthosts
    I have Adobe Dreamweaver
    I am running version 3.8.2
I am running the following plugins:
    acf-master
    akismet
    nav-menu-images
    private-content
    private-content-mail-actions
    raw-html
    recent-posts-plus
    user-role-editor
    usquare
    wp-document-revisions

I have downloaded a developer plugin for Firefox and am now able to see the errors but there are so many. How do i decipher which is causing the ‘white screen of death’?

    Thanks Kate

Hi Kate, sorry I was busy all day.

    How’s it going?

Unfortunately any browser plugin won’t show you the right errors, as they all happen on the server.

Did the instructions in my first link work? If you are using Dreamweaver, I assume you are accessing the site through FTP. There should be a folder called /wp-content/ (or something similar). In there you should find another folder called plugins/.

If you rename the plugins/ folder to plugins_old/ (or anything but plugins/), this will disable all the plugins and you should fix the white screen; you should be able to get into the admin.

Now create a new plugins/ folder in /wp-content/ and one-by-one, move over every plugin from the old folder to the new one. Activate each one at a time, until it breaks, and then you’ll know where your problem is.

Does this make sense? Will this work for you?

Your hosts *may* be able to help you with this, but they might not.

    Many thanks for your help.

I did exactly as you said. Initially i was working in the local view so this didn’t work and i panicked! but once i switched to the Remote server it did the trick. I deactivated all plugins and only reactivated the main ones. It is working perfectly now.

    Many thanks for your assistance

    Kate
