• On one of my sites, whatever I am updating I get this

The upgrade process has started. This can take a while on some hosts so please be patient.

    Enabling maintenance mode…

There is no confirmation message ever, to tell All done.
Updates are doner, but screen (text) never confirms it.

There is something in database I think, but I am not sure or how it happened.

I’ve encountered similar behavior once in a while. The suggestion to manually update in Niyas’ link is the safest way to go, even though it doesn’t correct the root cause. IME, the update was fine, just no confirmation.

An educated guess as to what’s happening: The update takes too long and your browser’s connection times out. All is fine server side, WP alters server timeout settings to ensure enough time to process updates. WP cannot alter browser timeout settings. In some browsers you might be able to alter the timeout settings yourself to keep the connection open long enough.

If you fail to get a confirmation, check the site in a new tab. If you don’t see a down for maintenance message and the site appears normal, the update was very likely successful. No cause for alarm. If the down for maintenance message never goes away, the update probably really did fail and you should do a manual update. There’s also a .maintenance file in the root installation folder that needs to be removed via FTP.
