Hi, I have WordPress core updates set to manually update but the latest WordPress Version 5.8.2 has updated automatically however I cannot find a record in the log of this happening.

Any ideas on how this happened and why it was not logged? Thank you.

  • Hi,

I wonder if you already have EUM updated to the latest release? if it’s in the latest version, could you please take a look at the WP’s updates screenwp-admin/update-core.php and see what WP core update status you have there.

If you have your core updates setting set to Manually update, it should have shown the below update status:

This site will not receive automatic updates for new versions of WordPress.

If you see a different update status, there might be another plugin interfering and/or overriding the core auto-update filter.`

    Thanks,
    Anthon

    Hi @anthoniusalfred

Yes, I can confirm it says This site will not receive automatic updates for new versions of WordPress.

    Hi @kds26

Are your website in a managed WordPress hosting? (e.g. WPEngine, SiteGround, Flywheel, etc.)

    Thanks,
    Anthon

    Hi @anthoniusalfred

No, not a managed WordPress hosting.

    Thanks

    Hi @kds26

Apologies for the delay in replying.

We’ve tried to reproduce the issue but have no luck with it, the core updates functionality appears to work fine on our end. We suspect other plugins might interfere with the auto_update_core filter. I was wondering if you could provide us with a list of plugins and themes you have active on your website?, if it’s too much for you to write down them all, would you mind sharing us a screenshot of plugins and themes you have on the WP’s plugins screen wp-admin/plugins.php and themes screen page wp-admin/themes.php?. To share screenshots via the forum, you could use https://snipboard.io/ or something similar, which will provide you with a shareable link.

    Thanks

    Hi @anthoniusalfred

Just a quick side note – I have a second site that has updates allowed, it has updated to wordpress Version 5.8.2 as expected but has no record of this in the Easy Updates Manager log. In your testing did it record the update in the log? Just thought it was a point of interest that may show it is something to do with my hosting.

    Hi @kds26

Thank you so much for the list of plugins, I will pass it to the team for further investigation. As for the log, yes we did get the update information in the EUM’s log while testing. However, we also have a report from another person regarding core updates that don’t get recorded in the log. We’re still investigating it, and hopefully we come up with something very shortly.
