wordpress update

    i just installed wordpress on ubuntu aws
    when i headed to update akismet plugin it is asking for ftp access
    is it really needed , coz i have already tried installing ftp on aws but no access,
    is there any alternative, coz i had shared hosting previously and i didnt had to provide ftp access for that,

    i think there must be something wrong with file permission, if anyone know pls help

    Hi @pawangond,
    I had the same problem with a local install on a VM. What solved it was to add the following line to the end of wp-config.php
    define('FS_METHOD', 'direct');

    but is it secure to use that command ?
    i want to know which is the best method which not cause any problem in future and secure also
