    hi!
i have a website running with joomla, and now i want to create a subolder as a “test” for a new website with wordpress.

My question is: how many databases do i need? Can i link these 2 websites with the same database or i must create another one?

right now i need both sites running with the second as a test untill it’s done.

i would appreciate a quick response! thnx!

  • WordPress has its own set of database table_prefixes that likely could be placed in the same database alongside what you already have, but I have been told it would not be a good idea to have two sites sharing those tables. So unless you might truly need to do something like that, it would be best to let each site have its own database. And if you want to keep things tidy and labelled in an orderly manner, you can set the name of the new database and even its table_prefix prior to installation.

Running WordPress from a sub-folder such as mydomain.com/wordpress is easy to do. Just upload the WordPress zip to mydomain.com, then unzip it and send your browser to mydoman.com/wordpress/ unless you first do want to name the database yourself.
