    HELP!

I have a hosted WP blog (not on wordpress.com) that I started about a year and a half ago. Not long after starting the blog I signed up for a WordPress.com account for an API key to install Akismet. Having a hosted blog and not thinking i would ever need to get on WordPress.com again, I promptly forgot my username and password…

This wasn’t a big deal until I tried to install the wordpress.com stats plug in a few days ago.

When I use the key that I had for Akismet I was prompted to sign-in in to WordPress.com and I have no idea what the username and password is.

So I created a new account on wordpress.com and tried to use that account. On wordpress.com I now get the following message:

You are not a member of this blog.

If you have just installed the Automattic Stats plugin, this error probably appeared because the API key entered in the plugin belongs to a different WordPress.com user account.

    * Have the owner of the API key visit this page and add you to the blog, or
    * Get your API key here, then deactivate and activating the plugin and enter your key to add your account to the access list for this blog.

Trying to use the API key that I received with the newly created account gets the following error:

The owner of that API Key is not on the access list for this blog. When this blog was registered, a different API key was used. Have the owner of that API key visit the stats page on wordpress.com and add you using the form at the bottom of that page.

  • Try doing a password reset for the account “radiationman” on wordpress.com.

Thank Andy, that did it – then it was a matter of figuring out which of the 8 billion e-mail addresses the password reminder was headed to 😉

But it’s figured out now and everything is working. Just waiting for the first stats to start rolling in. Thanks for your help!
