  • You have to edit a core file

    It is at about line 915 to 920 – remove this code:

    function browse_happy() {
    	$getit = __( 'WordPress recommends a better browser' );
    	echo '
    		<span id="bh" class="alignright"><a href="" title="'.$getit.'"><img src="images/browse-happy.gif" alt="Browse Happy" /></a></span>

    This should NOT have been included with WP – many users believe it to be spammy and no different from unscrupulous theme developers adding in hidden links back to themselves or others – but it’s there so the first thing I do is remove it before installing it. I wish the developers would NOT include crap like this.

    Oh yeah, if you upgrade you’ll have to do this removal again, so keep good notes….

    FOR THE RECORD I am NOT a fan if IE (which is where this link shows up, encouraging users to use an alternative browser), and in fact I refuse to allow anyone to use IE on any of the Window$ computers on our company network, however, I dislike even more the idea of spammy links buried in core code like this – it doesn’t belong in a wonderful product like WordPress.

    Oops sorry – you also need to get rid of these lines following those above:

    if (strpos($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'], 'MSIE') !== false)
    	add_action( 'in_admin_footer', 'browse_happy' );

    Thanks for the tip TrishaM, now I can blog happy too!

    (I just had to say something cheesy. :P)
