WordPress site freezes on New Post will not respond.

    I have a self hosted install of 4.1

    When I go to the dashboard and select New->Post the site freezes.
    The menu stays open and the site become unresponsive. All links to the site (admin or public) become unresponsive.

    The apache server itself is fine and ‘happily’ loads any other non-Wordpress asset in the domain.

    This situation stays this way for about 3-5 minutes and then unlocks itself.
    Often after this lock up, the site then functions okay. Including New->Post.

    Any troubleshooting tips I can use to trace where or what this issue is would of course be immensely appreciated.

    Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Fifteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
