Saw this out of the blue today, it’s on all 4 of my sites. No mention of this anywhere. And yes, I’m on the self-hosted WP. 3 sites on Pressidium Managed, 1 on buyshared.net

That’s not WordPress doing that though I have seen plugins and themes pull stunts like that.

Deactivate all of your plugin, switch to Twenty Seventeen and try and reproduce. I suspect it’s your theme but you should be able to tell after that.

Ah, got it. It was the Imagify plugin. Thanks.

    Huh. From the WordPress repo?

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/imagify/

*Install plugin from repo on test installation*

Oh yeah. It does do that. I am pretty sure that hijacking the plugins interface that way is going to leave a mark. I’ll inform the plugins team via plugins@wordpress.org as that’s hijacking the user’s dashboard for an ad.

Correct, the free version from the repo.

What’s even worse is that there was no mention it’s an ad. So I initially thought you guys started selling ads hah. I figured out it was Imagify by clicking on the “buy now” button and looking at the utm tags in the link.

Edit: just curious, is hijacking the plugin screen not allowed?

Yes, such things are not allowed. The plugin has been removed from the directory and the authors of the plugin have been notified of the issue.

In the future, you can email such issues with plugins to plugins at wordpress dot org, for a faster response.
