Not sure if this is the right thread to be posting in but …

I’m working on a website which I want to include a hosted WordPress blog (eg: Will the search function that comes with WordPress search the rest of my site, or will it just be restricted to the posts and pages I create on the blog itself?

Ideally I want the search function to cover the entire website. I’ve tried countless website search software but can’t get any of it to work, hence why I’m keen for it to be done by WordPress.

Otherwise it looks as though I’ll have to create the entire website in WordPress, which I’m reluctant to do as I don’t think it gives a newbie like me as much control over the layout and style as I can get with CSS (which I understand a lot better).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • If you know CSS, wordpress works best for you, you just need to edit one single stylesheet to gain control over whole site.

WordPress search is facilitated by querying the database of wordpress, so since your website is not in that database, the search will not include the other items. however you can try google custom search by inserting html code in your website and in wordpress widget.

WordPress is easy if you really wanna learn it

Thanks for the feedback Marvel Labs. Really appreciate it.

It all makes perfect sense the way you’ve explained about the rest of the website not being in the database etc, so I think I’ll give WordPress a try and see how I go.

    Thanks again!

Kindly set the thread as resolved

    i have done it too
