WordPress Roles not showing? (4 posts)

Great plugin! Thanks, easily the best of the bunch of WP & phpBB integration plugins!
Although the installation process is tough and not entirely smooth.

However, I've got past installation and everything (so far) seems to be working as expected. But I do have one problem...
That is, I have some custom Roles defined in WP (using the Members plugin [ http://justintadlock.com/archives/2009/09/17/members-wordpress-plugin ]) so that I can restrict certain WP pages etc. to specific groups of users. The problem is that these custom Roles are not shown in the WP-United "User Mapping" "New User Permissions" form, and thus without being able to map the WP Roles to phpBB Groups new users are not being replicated between the systems. Ideas on what's wrong greatly received?

    Hi,

I'm sorry for the long delay in responding to your post.

Unfortunately right now the available roles are hard-coded to subscriber, contributor, etc... but I agree it is important going forward that I allow custom roles.

I've put this on the 'to-do list'.

OK, great that it's on your to-do lost. Any idea when you might get round to it? It can't be too hard to replace a hard coded list of roles with the results of a simple (ish) WP query...

I wish it was that simple. Unfortunately it's actually relatively complicated as each role maps to a permission in phpBB that has it's own database entry and entry in the permissions language file associated with it.

Furthermore mappings aren't necessarily connected on a one-to-one basis. For example, I know that if a phpBB user or group is mapped to a subscriber and an administrator, then we can consider them an administrator. However if they are mapped to a contributor and a "custom elf", I can't take that decision. The one-to-many setup is a limitation of the phpBB permissions system.
