I got the following email from my WordPress site just now. What is causing this error?

    (URL replaced with example.com)

    Howdy!

Since WordPress 5.2 there is a built-in feature that detects when a plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your site, and notifies you with this automated email.

In this case, WordPress caught an error with your theme, Tracks.

    Thanks for getting in touch.

Do you have a license key activated for the Featured Video option? I think that’s the only way this error could occur. If so, please deactivate that license key for now and we can figure out a better solution.

    Hello,

Where would I check this from? I can’t seem to find the option for the license key under Appearance > Tracks Dashboard nor under Appearance > Customize.

Sorry I was hoping that you were still on an older version of Tracks that had the old license key options. Have you been using this theme a long time? The Featured Video license key is something we stopped selling 6 years ago and I see now how it could cause an issue with recent updates to Tracks.

I think I’ll have to release an update to the theme to patch this error.

    Hello Ben,

It’s definitely been a really long time since we got this theme yes. What would be the recommended step for us to take right now while waiting for the update? And will we have to renew the license key or something?

    Regards

Okay thanks for clarifying that for me.

The quickest way to fix this error will be to install the WP Rollback plugin. Then visit the Appearance menu, click on Tracks, and use this button to Rollback to version 1.45: https://share.getcloudapp.com/8LubwJDX

Once you’re using v1.45, you can open the Tracks Dashboard page and switch to the license keys tab: https://share.getcloudapp.com/mXupmq24

At the bottom, you’ll see the Featured Video license key which you can delete and click the Save button to remove from your site. Once that’s done, you can return to the newest version of Tracks and the error should be gone.
