I read at http://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_Privacy_Screen that if you have your site in a sub directory the WordPress blocks search engines settings do not work:

Note: The above only works if WordPress is installed in the site root and no robots.txt exists.

Is there another way to block search engines in a sub directory with WordPress? I already disallow all non registered users, but started wondering about search engines and the robots.txt after reading this article on the WordPress Codex.

  • I will have to add data in a robots.txt in the root and disallow crawling the sub directory.
