I have a couple sites running wordpress. Using wordpress was so easy, I converted a site I manage to wordpress. I’ve had no problems whatsoever with my site. The one is having problems. I had noticed quirky behavior in the past month. One behaviour in particular was that I couldn’t get onto the wp login page. I ftp’d on, renamed plugins to plugins.old and blamed it on a gallery plugin. Now, I’m thinking there’s another problem. Currently, when I go to the site, it takes forever to load the blog. Moving through the different pages takes forever also. And I had one person at the organization say that clicking on one of the pages takes them to the old site (which I’ve left on there, but use a little javascript to redirect to domain.com\blog).

Our host is Sprint. They did have a ‘one-click’ install, which was version 2.7. I then upgraded to 3.03 and now at 3.04.

I can access the site via wp login and I think I have a backup of a couple key config files, like index.php. I have not gone in and hacked in the php files. Should be the same as from installation/upgrade.

Any thoughts on troubleshooting? I could reinstall, but I’d hate to have to recreate everything.

    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Have you tried:

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    – increasing the memory available to PHP?

Okay, just getting home and now I can not access either the website or the wp admin. 500 Internal Server error. Something is definitely corrupt in WP. How can I reinstall? Any other thoughts on recovery? Don’t have a huge amount of data, but don’t want to have to build it all over again.

    Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides. You may need to access /wp-login.php to get this to kick in fully.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

I’ve disabled plugins, renamed twenty ten and have access to the wp-login.php. Is there something in the wp-login.php file I should be looking for?

Sorry no. You simply have to try to login in order to activate Twenty Ten.
