Support » Fixing WordPress » WordPress or WordPress-MU for community blog?

  • Hi all,
Yet another “WordPress or WordPress-MU” question, but I haven’t found the answer I was looking for in the existing tickets…

I want to build a community blog (so only one blog):

    • I want users to register and create content without the complexity of the WordPress Admin pages – so I want to build a dedicated registration process and simple “edit page” template, following the design of my blog
    • I’m looking with envy at the features offered by BuddyPress: activity stream, personal page per user. But is there any plugin for WordPress that could offer a taste of BuddyPress?

    Thanks for your help,

WPMU is the way to go.
Rationale: WPMU and WP codebases are merging soon. Therefore with BuddyPress as plugin for WPMU it will be too with merged WPMU/WP. In addition, with upcoming BuddyPress 1.1, bbpress can be installed as plugin of BuddyPress and integrated with ONE CLICK (it worked for me and others as well) for all goodies including cookies one login and forum topics appearing in WPMU homepage.

Question is, would you like to wait till it happens (no telling whether merge is this year or next) or set up it up now to learn the ropes?

Btw, if you choose WPMU, forums are at (until the merge that is)

Thanks for your answer, very interesting. I can’t wait for the merge (as you say no release date yet)…
Will dig a bit more into WPMU and BuddyPress.

If you go for a standard WP, you can try User Messages (messenging plugin between the WP users)
