• Hello!

Something about my WordPress site is broken. Every time a core update comes out, WordPress does not realize that the version available is newer than the one installed.

    My dashboard Updates page reads:
You have the latest version of WordPress.

If you need to re-install version –, you can do so here:
    Re-install Now Hide this update

This localized version contains both the translation and various other localization fixes. You can skip upgrading if you want to keep your current translation.

    Learn more about WordPress 4.7.3.

Screenshot of WordPress Dashboard: If you need to re-install version -, you can do so here

Previously, it read “Learn more about WordPress 4.7”. I clicked “Re-Install Now” and got a completely blank page that did nothing. I had to update to 4.7.3 manually for security reasons.

How can I get WordPress to realize what version it is on so that the one-click update will be available?

    Thank you!!!!!

  • Hello,

The missing version that you are seeing usually indicates the update is missing a file or the file permissions are incorrect preventing WordPress from accessing core files.

If you’ve already completed a manual update try checking your file permissions.

    Thanks, @graphicscove!

I’m checking my file permissions now – looks like files are 644 and folders are 755. I tried changing a few folders and files to make them more permissive (664, 775), but this does not seem to fix the issue and, in some cases, makes the admin pages disappear entirely.

Are there specific files I should be looking for?

    Thank you!!!

I tried updating based on the settings listed here that were different than my existing:
    All files should be 664.
    All folders should be 775.
    wp-config.php should be 660.

This broke the entire site. I restored the permissions settings to what they were originally and am still having the same problem with the auto update.
