Support » Plugin: Backup by 10Web - Backup and Restore Plugin » wordpress notification misused – spamming for this plugin

  • We don’t use any plugins by webdorado. Correction: The plugin “Photo Gallery” is used and by webdorado. This unrelated plugin is being pushed / advertised through the WordPress notifications.
Looks like a case of misuse to me.
Will be very weary of anything to do with webdorado in the future.

This unrelated plugin is being pushed / advertised through the WordPress notifications.

    Do you mean

    1. Your installation using this plugin is spamming you with emails or
    2. The author harvested your email without your permission via the plugin and is spamming you or
    3. Your getting notifications in your dashboard and it’s too much?
    4. None of the above

It’s an important question. I’ve not looked at or installed this plugin but I’d like to know more about your comment in you review here.

    Hi @tombob2006, Hi @jdembowski,

In the version 1.3.53 of Photo Gallery plugin we announced the release of Backup WD plugin with a dismissable notification, that is displayed only once and never appears again after the admin closes (dismisses) it.

Note, that this is not an advertisement of paid software as this plugin is free and does not have a paid version.

This notification is relevant as the plugin allows to backup the images from Photo Gallery.

Anyway, as @tombob2006 is not the only user that did not like the notification, we have removed it by rolling back the active version to 1.3.52.

The issue at hand is that i for one did not make the connection which of my plug-ins send that notification. It would’ve been common courtesy to at least announce which plug-in send the “offending” message. (e.g. ‘You receive this one time only announcement because we, $yournamehere, developers of $yourplugin, just released a new product which we think you might like.’)

I for one will be wary of your products from now on.

    @webdorado states in their reply:

    > This notification is relevant as the plugin allows to backup the images from Photo Gallery.

The notification also comes up when another one of their plugins is installed, FACEBOOK FEED WD. This is not relevant. Even so, the notification is spam and bad practice. They have several plugins that are likely doing the same thing.

Any cross marketing should be done on the actual plugin settings page, not misusing the WordPress notification system. Without knowing what plugin is displaying the notification, it looked like the site was hacked.

@jdembowski, I created a review for this plugin as well and their reply mentioned they would remove the notification. I have not checked yet to see if that is true or not. I would take a look at their other plugins as well.

    Hi, guys!

We are very sorry for the inconvenience you might have faced. We removed the ad of Backup WD plugin already.

In case you use other Web-Dorado plugins, please make sure they are all up-to-date.
    Cheers!
