• Hello,
For some reason, since I installed the latest version of WordPress, my site, http://www.altfg.com/blog has stopped pinging automatically. (Even though the Pingomatic link could – and can – be found in the Options/Writing box, and I’ve got the auto ping setting/box checked for each posting.)
When I went to pingomatic, I was able to ping manually, so I’m assuming this is a WordPress issue.
What do I need to do to ensure that sites will be pinged automatically whenever I update my site via WordPress?
I’ve searched for answers to this question in WP but couldn’t find any that solved my problem.
Any assistance will be much appreciated.

  • What does that mean “latest version”? Which version are you using?

What are you using to confirm the pingomatic ping? IOW, how do you know that WordPress is not pinging pingomatic?

Actually, I don’t know for a fact. What I found strange was that my blog wasn’t showing up in the Weblogs or Technorati updates – though I later found out that Feedster is getting the updates. I don’t understand what’s going on. . .

That doesn’t sound like a WordPress problem to me. The trouble is, when you’re writing in WordPress, pinging through Pingomatic, and looking for your pings on the update services that Pingomatic uses, then you already have three possible suspects.

Since Feedster is getting the updates, that pretty much means that WordPress is correctly pinging Pingomatic, so we can scratch that one off the list. The problem either lies with how Pingomatic is sending pings to Weblogs and Technorati, or how Weblogs and Technorati are accepting the pings. Weblogs and Technorati could also be having some momentary glitches or slow service, and that does happen frequently since they are two very highly used services.

Try this: Wait 24 hours, publish a new blog post, wait 12 hours, and search Technorati for that post. If the post is there, then your pinging problem was just a momentary glitch on Technorati’s end. If the post is not there, then the problem is probably on Pingomatic’s end, and you should contact their support team.

I will do that. Thank you.

This could, of course, be compounded by the fact that Pingomatic is currently offline.
