• Does the whole WP platform automatically create nofollow links in all the comments?

I was told as one strategy to make value added comments on WP blogs to get a backlink.

As I have looked into this further every site I have looked at including my own is that all links in comments are all nofollow so what is the point of doing this for the purpose of getting a backlink? I don’t get it.

Yes, comments are nofollow by default.

    Spammers are idiots.

Spammers are blasting comments, in some cases, without care as to whether a site is nofollow or dofollow. That’s because it takes more time to figure it out then to just submit the comment. Inevitably, some of those spam comments will land on a dofollow site and send some juice back.

Tactically, if you want to mitigate the number of spam comments, your plugins should catch an overwhelming amount of these. I use a Cookies for Comments and Akismet combo.
