  • can you please provide the link to your website?

You might try deleting *all* browser cookies and history and completely flushing its cache with something like CCleaner, then even using a private tab and *type* your site address into your browser rather than using any Favorite or Bookmark or whatever and see what happens. A few days ago, I was amazed by the difference that made after a few weeks of sitting here and having to just watch as the little wheel spun for several seconds every time I logged in.

Post back if that makes no difference, or either way, of course, and either I will try to find the single line of code you need near the bottom of wp-config to push on in through just about anything or maybe someone else who already has that handy will post it. But if you do end up using that line, you *must* be certain of the address your browser sends out since that *will* become your site’s new (restored) address.

Thank you leejosepho! clearing the browser history. cookies and cache worked. I did not have to use CCleaner. I don’t understand why this happens. Sounds like something I should do regularly. I was able to use the bookmarked link to the login.

For future reference — what do mean my “private tab”?

Also, not sure I understand the “address your browser sends out” — is this the same as the link to the wordpress log in or something else.

Sorry to be slow, but I’m still learning – really appreciate the help!

I don’t understand why this happens.

Me neither, at least not in any detail. But it comes down to a browser either remembering what a site has told it to do (cookies) or maybe something a coder somewhere decided might be best for everyone everywhere as based upon how s/he happens to like his/hers to act!

For future reference — what do mean my “private tab”?

In Firefox, click “File > New Private Window” to get a tab that will not be affected by any other tab you might have open and no history (cookies or whatever) will be remembered. As an example of one use of that, you can then see your site exactly as any visitor would see it before logging in even thought you are logged in at a regular tab.

I do know know enough to offer a clear answer there, but I do know all my redirected-redirects problems during login went away after I had completely removed *all* cookies and and history and cache. Just watch your address bar once in a while and look at how often it changes on your way to somewhere even after you had only clicked one link.
