WordPress, is this what I'm looking for?

Hi all, I’m new here. Main question is. Is WordPress what I’m looking for?
I’m building a web site. What I want is to have media with links to pages within my domain and outside. To have a number of pages all linked to one another. Basically a standard web site. Being used to using Dreamweaver, I’m finding it hard to get my head around the workings of WP. So beginning to think I’m using the wrong app. to design this site.
Is WP just a Blogging app or can I achieve what I’m looking for?
