 * So this is my 5tn attempt – after which I will give up! Had it working twice,
   but couldn’t log in again after the first session. This time I can’t even get
   it going, after a complete clean out and new installation of all the files. Old
   DB deleted and a new one created.
 * I would like to host wordpress on the subdomain “www.susanne.treacletheatre.co.
   uk”
    Linux server hosted by streamline.net who say that wordpress shouldn’t be
   a problem. Using the FTP file uploader. Config file changed, etc. No current
   server issues.
 * Keep getting this message.
 * > 500 Internal Server Error
   > The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration
   > and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator,
   > [webmaster@susanne.treacletheatre.co.uk](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/wordpress-installation-problems-losing-hope/webmaster@susanne.treacletheatre.co.uk?output_format=md)
   > and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have
   > done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may
   > be available in the server error log.
 * One other question I had while troubleshooting “[http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Common_Installation_Problems&#8221](http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Common_Installation_Problems&#8221);:
   Is the following out of date?
 * > Check that the last line contains nothing but ?>, and that there is no text
   > after it (not even whitespace).
 * The original downloaded config file doesn’t have this. Tried adding it but it
   didn’t help.
 * Please let me know if you need any additional information. Hope we can sort this
   out!

    get with your host and get some help if wordpress is not a
   problem to install, then you should not be getting a 500 – you are paying these
   guys

 * What happens if you upload the default wp-config.php file without editing it?

   WP would make the changes to the file in most cases…

 * I’ll try Jint, thanks.
    And otherwise I’ll get in touch with streamline again.
   Just takes ages to get any decent response. Let you both know soon, Kaspar

 * Is there any .htaccess file exists in the root of the subdomain dir? And also
   the root of the dir? Usually when installation was a success, and u can’t logged
   in bcause the site url and blog url is not correct.

 * samboll is right, your hosting company should be able to walk you through this.
   Regardless of whether you’re doing a one-click install or a manual install, you
   are paying them to get it up and running.

 * Jint have you actually tried this? Pardon me if I’m wrong, but I think this is
   incorrect information.

 * I was getting the same error just now on my web host. At the time it was running
   with php 4.4.1. I switched it to 5.2.5 and boom, it started working just like
   that.
 * So does this mean that WordPress is not compatible with PHP version 4.4.1 or
   is it no longer compatible with 4.x or perhaps this was just an odd fluke on
   the part of my webhost’s php setup?
 * It was awardspace, btw.

 * WordPress is compatible with PHP version 4.3 or greater.

 * Jint’s suggestion didn’t work out and I’m still waiting on my host to get back.
   Cheap comes at a price. I also tried the wp-admin/setup-config.php trick without
   any luck (maybe that was what you were meaning?).
 * Zeo – I don’t have the option to make this visible – or at least I don’t seem
   to. So no idea if I’ve got one and where.
 * Squiggly and Esmi – I’ll ask about the PHP version too. But how do I change this?
   Not sure I can on my package.

 * I guess streamline, as a big company, are probably using the lastest PHP though.
   Or?

 * PS. With Streamline you can’t use any third party software to aid installation.

 * Actually, Streamline only offers PHP5 on their Linux servers. [http://www.streamline.net/web-hosting/features/advanced-scripting/](http://www.streamline.net/web-hosting/features/advanced-scripting/)
