• I am used to installing WordPress on servers then log into WordPress and sart making a website. No problems there. BUT, is it possible to install WordPress on my own computer and basically run it on my computer with or without the internet. Not necessarily a website but a local interactive application. I want to make a website on my computer that can be displayed on my computer with or without the internet still downloading plugins and use them the same way as if they were on the internet. I hope this makes sense. I would assume this could be done and still viewed in a browser. If this can be done, how would I install this? By the way, would like to install it on Windows and Linux. Thank you in advance!

  • It’s pretty common. You will first need to install a server/development environment on your PC. Google will definitely be your best friend on this issue. There is literally tons of tutorials and documentation available. You’ll need a little patience, and will have to work with it until you find a comfort level that’s right for you.

My personal preference is WampServer, for Windows development environments. In Linux environments, the server applications are usually easily available via whatever package management system the OS uses. There are also third party packages that can be used on Linux, however I personally find them unsatisfactory when compared to actually installing Apache, PHP and MySQL, and running it properly.

Here are some suggestions they make in the Codex, but don’t limit yourself to just those mentioned when making a decision: Installing WordPress on your own Computer

    Very helpful! Thank you!

    You’re welcome!

Similar enquiry with a twist. I want to build my website before transferring my domain to the website host (Hostpapa). Hostpapa seem to have difficulty accommodating this reasonable request so I am trying to build the website on my PC but cannot get WordPress to work.

    Any suggestions?

The site http://www.marchesdigital.co.uk is on Moonfruit at the moment and I just want to get out!

As per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. Your problem – despite any similarity in symptoms – is likely to be completely different.
