Support » Fixing WordPress » WordPress in 2 different server

  • Hi

I would like to check and get help on hosting in same server, or different server.

Currently, I have an web application hosted on Linode server with domain name say abcd.com. I want WordPress to be BlueHost with domain name say abcd.com/bluehost. I was told it is not possiblem.

Thus, I would like to check

    1) Is it better to have WordPress to be hosted in same server environment as my web application. They serve as 1 application with WordPress as the main page? Both in Linode server.

    or

    2) WP in BlueHost as main page, and Web Application in Linode as another domain name?

I think performance is faster, although I have to pay one additional hosting for WP.

But, what’s your thoughts? Better to have 1 server, or 2 servers.

  • @tzeweic,

I hope everything is going well for you!

As far as your original question of being able to use a second sever for your WordPress, it is possible. It’s really a question of how to best use the framework? I’ve done this myself with subdomains (bluehost.abdc.com instead of abdc.com/bluehoust), but I imagine it could be possible using the subdirectory route like you are asking.

The key to doing that will be setting up your DNS configuration to propagate to the correct server.

The pros of having your application and WordPress install on different servers is that in the event one has issues or gets hacked your other service is still, OK. You also should technically have better performance as each entity is on it’s own server. If they are communicating with each other you may see a little issue there, but otherwise it should be ok.

In the end though, it’s really just whatever is easier for you! At least that’s my opinion 🙂

Hope this helps and have a great day!

    Hi Kevin,

Really appreciate. I was thinking along the same line as well.

One quick question: My main web application lies in Linode server, and do I have to buy a domain name for bluehost.abdc.com. I already got a domain name for abdc.com
