• Hi everyone,

I am trying to import my wordpress data from my other site but it keeps giving me an error. When I export the data from my current site it creates a 12MB XML file. When I try to import the file into my new site, I get the following error:

Sorry, there has been an error.
File is empty. Please upload something more substantial. This error could also be caused by uploads being disabled in your php.ini or by post_max_size being defined as smaller than upload_max_filesize in php.ini.

I checked my PHP settings and the max filesize is set to 60MB so I don’t understand why it’s not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Alright, so I was able to get it working. I read on another website that WordPress will error if your backup file is larger than 8MB regardless of your PHP settings.

I found a Windows tool called WXR Splitter that allowed me to split the 12MB file into two smaller files and they imported just fine.

Hope this helps someone who has the same issue I was having.
