    Hi,
I am missing a Roadmap on the wordpress.org Homepage, where you can find informations about the official supported releases can be found.

It is deeply hidden on codex.wordpress.org and cannot be really found on the wordpress homepage. But this information is really important to decide wether to upgrade to newer releases or keep on running an older releases, which is still updated with security fixes.

A second point is a missing link to codex.wordpress.org on the wordpress.org Homepage: in the horizontal navigation you can find “Support” –> “Documentation”, but this navigation entry points not to codex.wordpress.org. It cannot be found easy enough. Please add a link to it on the wordpress.org Support menu.

    Thanks

The Roadmap can be found on the about section: https://wordpress.org/about/roadmap/

And the codex is gradually being phased out in favor of the documentation.

As for whether or not to upgrade: Always upgrade. Only the latest version of WordPress is considered supported. Older releases may receive security fixes, but they may not as well. *ONLY* the latest release is supported.

Thanks, for me it’s clear in the meantime. I am a newbie in WordPress CMS, coming from TYPO3. So I had first clearify some basic questions and these answers are very difficult to find on your wordpress.org homepage:

So my intention with this forum posting was, that the website maintainer of wordpress.org adds these basic informations to the homepage (in the moment it is hidden and cannot easily be found):

    – “always update/upgrade to the latest version, older versions aren’t officially supported” (as you explained above and as it can be found under codex.wordpress.org, but not on the official wordpress.org homepage)
    – make the roadmap more clear to give a timetable when the releases are planned and when the user have to test and upgrade to new versions. The TYPO3 roadmap is a good example for TYPO3 upgrade planning and it is really helpful for maintaining TYPO3-sites and planning necessary upgrades.

    Thanks a lot,

    markus
