    Please note that WordPress, in and of itself, cannot delete anything from your media folder without manual (i.e. your) intervention. The app does not randomly delete things. Can’t.

    If you don’t have a good backup, ask your host for a backup. And start making backups regularly.

    The most likely reasons for this are:
    1) Someone accidently whacked the folder via FTP
    2) Some admin deleted them (unlikely if the media page shows them as broken images)
    3) Your server had a hissy fit
    4) You were hacked (unlikely if that’s the ONLY thing that happened).

    I think i’ve actually figured out what happened. We moved the website to a different location and all of the photos in the posts are pointing to the wrong location. I looked again and did find the pictures in the media file so I just need to change the URL.
