• Hi,

I haven’t installed WordPress yet as I have a question.

I currently have a blog on blogger with a custom domain; I bought the domain through GoDaddy.

I would like to migrate over to WordPress and was wondering how difficult this would be going through GoDaddy. Is it just a case of purchasing the hosting from GoDaddy and then installing WordPress on the domain? Would I lose the website as it is now as WordPress would wipe it? I am not sure how this would work so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Hey tpw21,

I typically haven’t had much luck using GoDaddy to actually host a site, but GoDaddy is a great registrar. Keep your registration at GoDaddy and look into something like SiteGround, HostMonster, MediaTemple ect. I’ve had experience with these three hosts, each should have a walkthrough on how to setup with GoDaddy – should be pretty simple.

Once you kick off the migration, remember that it could take 48 hours to actually happen and things might look a little strange towards the end of the migration – it’s normal. I find it typically takes me about 12 hours for the change to propagate across DNS servers and for the site to move to a new host.

My experience with GoDaddy consists of a client being stuck with their limited editing tools. There may be different levels of hosting options with GoDaddy, but I know very few people who use GoDaddy as registrar AND web host.

    Hope this helps!

I have used GoDaddy for WordPress hosting and found it was easy to use. I also believe you can import your Blogger site into WordPress. I am including a link to the page that discusses what is and is not included in the import.
