• I asked this question before but haven’t got a definite answer so I’m trying again. I have a bit more clues as to what the problem is so I’m posting it again and maybe someone can help. My blog is at stillhaventfound dot org. I’m using an old version of WordPress 2.02. I have about 300 posts and pages. All of them are not unreasonably big and contain hardly any images. The problem is my WordPress database has been unusually increasing and increasing (eventhough I hardly post) and it’s over 140 mb now. Someone responded previously and said there’s something definitely wrong and unusual. But I’m still trying to find out what it is and how I can solve this.

The only thing that is constantly increasing in size is that I get about 100-200 SPAM comments everyday. Say about 100 on average everyday for the past 1-2 years. I always moderate these SPAM comments by “marking all as SPAM”. My guess is that when I do that, WordPress somehow “stores” these SPAM information somewhere? (afterall, there’s a difference between “mark all as SPAM” and “mark all for deletion” right?) And I’m wondering if all these information is what’s increasing the size of my database.

Oh, I just found out that the “mark all as SPAM” is for use with “Akismet” although I don’t seem to have activated it. I’m wondering if that’s what’s causing my database to increase somehow – that I’m always clicking on “mark all as SPAM” but haven’t actually activated “Akismet”?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
