# wordpress database puzzle

 * Can anyone tell me why every time I update a post, a new entry is added to the
   database with a whole new post ID?

 * Just a wild guess here, and maybe someone with a more definitive explanation 
   will chime in, but I’m thinking [post revisions](https://codex.wordpress.org/Revisions)
   could be responsible?
 * _“Revisions are stored as children of their associated post (the same thing we
   do for attachments). They are given a post\_status of ‘inherit’, a post\_type
   of ‘revision’, and a post\_name of {parent ID}- revision(-#) for regular revisions
   and {parent ID}-autosave for autosaves” _
 * If that’s not what you are seeing, some additional details may help in getting
   to the correct answer.

 * Thank you. This IS what I’m seeing. So evidently this is supposed to happen.
