wordpress core not loading jquery

  • I know this question has been beaten to death but I’m trying to get jquery to be recognized. Which isn’t happening.

    I’m attempting to design my first theme and one of the initial things I’m attempting to do is load jquery.

    According to the codex the library and a number of other popular ones are loaded by default, though jquery isn’t and simple alert scripts aren’t working.

    I’m not sure why these aren’t loading but manually attempting to do so with the following provided no results either.

    function script_registration(){
    	wp_register_script( 'jquery' , get_template_directory_uri() . 'js/jquery.min.js');
    	wp_enqueue_script('jquery');
    }

    add_action('init','script_registration');

    that was placed in the functions file and isn’t doing much either. any help would be greatly appreciated.
