WordPress connection issues

    Let me try to make my issue clear point by point

    Since a week:
    – my backend is very slow
    – the left menu css is messed up
    – when i try to add a plugin it takes 1 minute before i get the following error: “An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.”
    – the wordpress news widget on the backend dashboard shows the following error: “RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: Failed to connect to wordpress.org port 80: Connection timed out”
    – clean installs of older versions of wordpress, no luck, weird thing though the auto updater showed that wordpress is up-to-date after every check, while it was clearly not the latest version
    – wordfence gives me the error:
    “Wordfence could not get an API key from the Wordfence scanning servers when it activated. You can try to fix this by going to the Wordfence “options” page and hitting “Save Changes”. This will cause Wordfence to retry fetching an API key for you. If you keep seeing this error it usually means your WordPress server can’t connect to our scanning servers. You can try asking your WordPress host to allow your WordPress server to connect to noc1.wordfence.com.”
    when i try to scan the wordpress installation

    on the multi wordpress server setup (nginx):
    – all other wordpress sites work as expected
    – hotel-tetouan.com is the only site that uses a different DNS server
    – i tried the command: curl -I https://wordpress/org/feed/
    gave me:

    I’ve tried
    – resetting database
    – deleting all files from root and upload a fresh install
    – checking db_version in database, its correct
    – checking and uploading update.php seperately in wp-includes/
    – adding define(‘WP_HTTP_BLOCK_EXTERNAL’, false); at the end of the wp-config.php file

    – checked dns, not blocked in any country, soa record missing (but it worked before without) http://dnscheck.pingdom.com/?domain=www.hotel-tetouan.com
    – added wordpress nameservers

    I’m not seeing anything at that url. Is the site supposed to still be up?

    Is this a new WP multisite network? Or is it an existing network that developed new problems?

    Is the site having problems the main site in the network, or a subsite?
