 * Hi all,
 * I started working on a WordPress site about 3 weeks ago. I set up WordPress with
   MAMP, and to edit my site (currently not a live site) I simply go to “localhost:
   8888” in my address bar. Until TODAY, this brought me to my website with a dark
   grey WordPress Editor top bar that gave me the ability to add pages, adjust settings
   and plugins, and pretty much do everything on the site.
 * Today I navigated to “localhost:8888” and my site is there and working fine,
   but it’s like the front end of the website with no way to edit pages. I tried
   changing the address to “localhost:8888/admin/post.php” (from my browser history)
   to see if it would bring the edit bar back, but instead I was brought to a WordPress
   log-in screen. It didn’t recognize my username/password, so I clicked “Forgot
   Password” and entered my email. I was met with this error: “The email could not
   be sent.
    Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function”.
   Plus I was able to login here so I know my password and username are correct…
 * I have been scouring my WordPress files for something that might have been moved
   or deleted to prevent the CMS from working, but I can’t find anything. I tried
   the steps on this forum: [https://wordpress.org/support/topic/visual-editor-missing-15/](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/visual-editor-missing-15/)
   But it didn’t work, and I wasn’t convinced it was the same problem I was having
   anyway.
 * Does anyone have experience with the CMS editor just disappearing??
    Please help!-
   Ashley

 * Generally, you cannot send emails from the *AMP systems, as there’s no mail transfer
   agent to handle it. You need to login to your site to add content.
 * If you’ve forgotten your password, there are ways to get around the mail problem.

 * Hi Steve,
    Thanks for the quick reply. The password is not the issue, I am certain
   the password is correct as I’m able to log into this forum to post to reply to
   you. The issue occurs only when I go to “localhost8888”. It only brings me to
   the front end of the site, with no interface to even choose to login to. To go
   to the login screen, I used my browser history to find an address with “wp” in
   it in the hopes it would bring me back to the CMS. Would the CMS be not showing
   up simply because I’m not logged in? (I’m very confused, please be patient if
   that’s a dumb question)
 * I am only met with my webpage as it would appear to a visitor to the site (if
   it were live).
 * Here is a screenshot to help clarify my situation: [http://i.imgur.com/ckXytX5](http://i.imgur.com/ckXytX5)
 * The light-blue text near the top is what I wish was there.

 * Have you tried localhost8888/wp-admin ? I know it is kind of stupid question,
   but… 🙂
    Looks like you did. I’d go with changing password in the database manually,
   anyway.

 * Your password here has *nothing* to do with the id/password of your local WordPress
   site. Your login page there is localhost:8888/wp-admin/
 * The image you posted shows you want to see the admin bar. You need to be logged
   in to see it.

 * THANK YOU.
 * Okay. I now understand the difference between the wordpress.org login and my
   own site login. Like I said, I’m VERY NEW to web development and until now I’ve
   only ever used sites like Weebly, which take care of all the backend stuff for
   you.
 * You’ve been very helpful!
