# WordPress changes my html code

 * I’m new to using wordpress.
 * When I enter html in the edit screen and then click on preview changes or update,
   WordPress changes the source code in ways that screw up the page.
 * When I go back to edit, the code shows up the way I entered it, but on updating
   it it screws it up again.
 * This is not consistent.
 * What’s happening?
 * It is creating a mess.

 * Sounds as if you may have a theme issue. Have you tried using the Twenty Ten 
   theme?

 * esmi — Great name!
 * Actually someone else set this up, choosing the theme and setting up the site.
   And I don’t have access to him.
 * Can you fill me in on “theme issue” so I will have some sense of what to look
   for?
 * I will have to research a bit on WordPress themes. I suppose you are suggesting
   that there is a template somewhere with code that is interfering with the code
   I am entering in the edit window.

 * Yes. Or it’s the CSS. Unfortunately, only you know what display you were trying
   to achieve and, therefore, where it’s being messed up.

 * What it is doing is changing the html. It actually moves html tags around. It
   has nothing to do with any styles. I’m not even working with any tags that have
   classes or ids. CSS shouldn’t move individual html tags anyway.
 * It’s moving stuff like `<p>`, `<a>` and `<em>` tags.
 * One thing that is odd is that when I look at the source code of the loaded page,
   I see the changes, but when I go back to edit it, the cod appears once again 
   as I has interred it.
