    I received message about automatic WordPress update; WordPress is developed by millions of third-party partners, and because of it there is no policies about compatibility between of themes, pugins and CMS.
    Those updates should be allowd by the owner of WP installation, and not be “automatic”. If my WP theme (or plugin) stops to work because those “automatic updates”? Who will pay for any eventual prejudice? Those possibilities are so important as the security questions.

    Automatic minor version updates are enabled by default but you can easily disable that in your wp-config.php file with this line.

    define( 'AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED', true );

    That will take care of it and prevent your site from automatically updating.

    Major version numbers will not automatically update. So if you are on 4.1.2 you won’t upgrade to 4.2 unless you manually initiate that.

    4.1.1 to 4.1.2 will update as that’s a minor version number release.

    Your site remains your responsibility and you do have full control over your site. You should upgrade when prompted but it’s your choice. If you are truly concerned then please disable automatic updates.

    Thanks a lot, I will try this solution.

    wallyvianna: Thank for this post. I agree with you 100% on on this point.

    Jan Dembowski: I just completed the process you suggested and I’m hoping that your quoted words represent the official WP policy on auto-updates and updates in general. In any case, thanks for your reply.

    Jan does not hold an authoritative position on this, you can check out the documentation behind automatic upgrades: https://codex.wordpress.org/Configuring_Automatic_Background_Updates
