WordPress author dropdown select shows ()

    When I look at the list of authors on a client site on some posts, not all, show an author of null () – parenthesis, blank, nothing.

    I checked the user list but it looks normal – says 2 authors, which is expected. I scanned for malware in several ways – all is clean.

    If I change the author it goes away.

    What do you make of that?

    Is it possible they deleted a user, the author of those posts, without assigning the posts to an existing user?

    I guess that is a possibility, linux4me2.

    That led me to look at the post page’s “author” column.
    48 say author is site owner, 11 say author is me (webmaster)

    Which left 5 author is “blank”
    After I changed them to the site owner – the () went away from the list.
